Truagh Development Association/WEA Cross Border Peace Building Project
"And I shall have some peace there,
For peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings ..."
W.B. Yeats
Last November, 2006, Truagh Development Association (TDA) working in partnership with the Workers' Educational Association (WEA) in Belfast, launched a cross-border cross-community peace buildign project for the border corridor.
This interesting new project which is located at the Blackwater Valley Learning Centre, in north County Monaghan, is aimed at building peace through community education. The main task of the project is to develop and offer a wide range of peace building programmes and workshops. These will include some WEA accredited and non-accredited courses adapted specifically for the project. There will also be some specially designed programmes based on the work of Brandon Hamber on the theme of reconciliation (which will be piloted at the WEA/Truagh project), a Training for Trainers Programme, "Developing Faciliation Skills", and various other supportive workshops and peace building experiences.
