Errigal Truagh Old Schoolhouse

From 1824 - 1826 there was a national school in Errigal. The teacher was William McFee a protestant earning about £10 a year. There were ten protestant children, five presbyterian and five catholic.  The house was built with stone and lime and the roof slated.  The vicar gives £2 per annum and the parish gives £4 per annum.

In Griffiths Valuation of 1860 it is recorded as Church Education Society’s School House and the building is worth £1 and 10 shillings.

In 1997 Truagh Development Committee with the help of a grant from Peace & Reconciliation Fund restored the building and it is now used as a Heritage Centre and a Centre for meetings.

Travelnet, part of the Rural Transport Initiviate, is currently based at the Errigal Heritage Centre at Truagh.
